Vltava Relay

A renowned figure associated with the area of the Šumava springs of the Vltava River will take water from the Vltava spring into a specially prepared vessel about a month before the opening, carry it along a specified section of the upper reaches of the river and then pass it on as a relay to another relay participant who will transport it in a boat along the downstream section of the upper reaches.

The other participants of the relay, always personalities connected with the Vltava (tourists, canoeists, yachtsmen, dam operators, Vltava entrepreneurs, steamboat captains, etc.) will transport the vessel of water from the spring to Prague under the Prague Castle. The relay will spend the night at important places on the Vltava – historical settlements, villages and towns.

At the conclusion, on the day of the opening of the exhibition, it will be carried directly into the Prague Castle Riding School. There, in the entrance area of the exhibition, a specially designed glass object will be installed, into which the spring water will be placed, thus inaugurating the exhibition.
The glass vessel will be artistically conceived to evoke a heart and its pulse, and in this way, the idea of the real Heart of the Vltava – infusing the exhibition with life – will be symbolically brought into the space.
